Struggling golf clubs around Australia are increasingly turning to co-share development projects as a means of shoring up future revenue streams and getting back in the black.
However, each club’s location and circumstances are unique and what works at one site will not necessarily be the right solution for another site
RetireAustralia and Burleigh Golf Club have partnered to launch The Verge at Burleigh GC, an innovative vertical retirement village planned for an under-utilised section of the Gold Coast golf course adjacent to the 10th fairway.
RetireAustralia Acquisitions and Development Manager Scott Baker said the project was the right fit for both the club and RetireAustralia, as well as the wider community, and already the village was drawing plenty of interest from potential buyers.

“The existing activities of the site must complement the future retirement community, and vice versa – this is a key factor for success.
“The proximity of existing services and amenities is also very important when assessing sites that involve co-location with golf clubs and bowls clubs in particular. Ideally retirement communities benefit from being within easy walking or driving distance to medical services, shopping, dining and entertainment hubs, parks and recreational spaces, transport links and schools and childcare.”
Social interaction and connection is important for healthy ageing and projects such as The Verge encourage residents to become part of the club community. The Verge also includes meeting spaces that are available to the broader community for further social engagement.
“The Verge is also providing essential seniors living options to the local region, which is currently experiencing a significant lack of well-designed and high-quality retirement living,” he said.
“We ensure that all our projects are responding to market demand and there is an increasingly high need for quality retirement living options in areas such as the Gold Coast.”
