Australia’s Troy Moses (NSW) will make his PGA Tour China Tour debut this week after carding a 69 to finish second at the Monday Qualifier for the Suzhou Open.
Moses, 26, who was on track to finish 4-under before picking up his first and only bogey on the final hole, will join Monday Qualifier winner Chinese Taipei’s Weihsiang Wang in his tour debut. Wang will compete against younger brother Weihsuan Wang, 23, who will make his Tour debut Thursday after carding five birdies and one bogey at the Gary Player-designed Jinji Lake International Golf Club.
Chinese players Yuezu Tao (70), Yan Sun (71), Lidong Chen (72), and amateurs Zhijie Jiang (72), and Zonghu Ma (72) also finished inside the top 10 to earn entry into the main-field, along with England’s Oliver Roberts (71), South Korea’s Seseung Noh (72) and America’s Kevin Chen (72).
Wang, who started on hole 10, made his only bogey on his second hole and things drastically improved after that. Following back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15, Wang added another birdie on No. 2 before closing with two consecutive birdies for the low score of the day.
Now Weihsiang Wang is hoping for a strong debut when he competes alongside his 19-year-old brother, who is currently 36th on the Tour’s Order of Merit after playing in just three events.
“This is my first time to play on this course, and I am really fond of it. The last nine holes are links style, which makes the course very distinctive and the greens are in great condition,” said Wang. “In this week’s competition, my goal is to make the cut in my first PGA TOUR Series-China event and then hopefully finish inside the top 20, so I won’t have to compete in the Monday qualifying next week in Huangshan.”
