Bexley GC presenting a popular golfing option in Sydney’s south

IT’S a challenge that just keeps luring players back time and again.
And Bexley Golf Club continues to be one of the more popular golf courses south of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Unlike so many courses these days, Bexley appeals to the time-friendly player, thanks to a unique configuration.
Bexley is one of those rare layouts that boasts three six-hole loops.
That presents a great opportunity for the time-restricted golfer to play a few quick holes before or after work.
This club’s officials and a growing number of its players strongly believe that the demand for more regular shorter-form competitions will continue to increase.
And it’s a popular option that Bexley Golf Club can deliver.
The good news is the Bexley Golf Club Board has agreed to a bunker restoration program where all bunkers will be enhanced over the next three to four years.

And membership is currently open with the club currently accepting new memberships and offering subsidised rates for members aged 18-35 as well as juniors.
The club is currently offering 15 months for the price of 12 to new members who join the club prior to the end of this month [February 28, 2025].
Although regarded as relatively short by today’s standards, measuring a comfortable 4097 metres, there is a premium on accuracy and restraint off the tee rather than length at Bexley.
A few of the par fours are reachable, but the tight, tree-line fairways will make you second-guess about hitting a driver.
In addition, the course’s tricky greens are guarded by some well-placed bunkers.
There are also a couple of dams on the course, and these add to the challenge on some of the holes.
That didn’t present a problem to Bexley head professional Adam Demidjuk who recently shot an eight-under-par 56 during Bexley’s Wednesday stableford competition.
Demidjuk, a former gun junior with the Newton Golf Foundation, has found a happy home at Bexley since moving there from Forbes.
While he tries to play with the members once or twice a month, he admitted he hadn’t expected to play on that magical day and with no real warm-up went out and shot the lights out.
“It was just great fun,” he told Inside Golf.
“He must have only played 12 holes,” joked Bexley general manager John Hair.
The club boasts 400 active members on its’ books although with noticeable improvements, membership is growing all the time.
According to Hair, the quality and accessibility of the product at the annual subscription price provides a perfect gateway for new members to become part of a golfing community.
Major events include the members’ club championships held each October and November while the prestigious Bexley Cup is played annually in December.
That event always always attracts a high-quality field of amateur golfers.

Proud Bexley member and three-time club champion Susan Hassapis after completing her hat-trick of successes in 2024.
In 2024, Nick Katholos from Carnarvon Golf Club was victorious with a score of one-under-par 63, defeating Royal Sydney golfer James Pelly and Macquarie Links visitor Mark Sandilands by one stroke.
“Our club engages strongly for community betterment with Bayside Council,” said Hair.
“This interaction is extremely important for the enhancement of both the facility and community relations.
Among the highlights of a game at Bexley are:
• The sixth: An uphill par-three measuring 156m, which demands an accurately-placed tee shot;
• The 10th: A challenging opener to the back nine, requiring an accurate long-iron shot downhill to a tough green.
Yet such is the vibe at Bexley that members come from all corners of Sydney to enjoy their round of golf and become part of the Bexley golfing family.
Bexley welcomes anyone who has ever thought about playing golf more regularly to come and join. The club has flexible payment options for all categories.
And for those wishing to enjoy the challenge, Bexley Golf Club encourages on-line social group bookings or register as a public member.

Demidjuk going all out to enhance Bexley’s member experience
COME and play the ninth and find out for yourself.
That’s the sage advice of Bexley’s well-travelled club professional Adam Demidjuk.
After a stint at a country course, Demidjuk has found a happy home at Bexley and recently made a late decision to play in a mid-week competition, went out and fired a stunning eight-under-par 56.
“Opinions may vary, but I believe the ninth hole is the standout on our course,” he told Inside Golf.
“This 335m par-four presents a challenging downhill tee shot followed by an uphill approach.
“The ever-present breeze adds another layer of complexity, making it crucial for players to factor in wind direction and strength when selecting their club and shot trajectory.
“A well-executed tee shot can leave you with anywhere from 80m to 150m for your approach, offering a chance to hit the green and set up a potential birdie.
“Still, a slight misjudgement can easily lead to a bogey or worse.
“Visually, the hole is stunning . . . both off the tee and on the approach, with the beautiful clubhouse serving as a striking backdrop to the green.
“This strategically demanding hole offers a true test for golfers of all abilities.”
Demidjuk has made some enterprising changes to the pro shop since arriving at Bexley.
“We’re proud to be affiliated with Acushnet, the parent company of Titleist and FootJoy, and we are a key partner with them,” he said.
“Our pro shop prominently features a showcase of their brands, which has contributed significantly to the club’s financial position.
“In addition to Acushnet products, we continue to offer a wide range of top-tier brands, including Callaway, TaylorMade, Mizuno and PING.
“Our comprehensive selection is designed to suit golfers of all levels, from juniors and beginners to intermediates and touring professionals.
“We also provide expert services, including professional clubfitting and regripping, ensuring your equipment is always in peak condition to enhance your performance on the course.”

Bexley club professional Adam Demidjuk.
Since taking on his role at Bexley Golf Club, Demidjuk has gone all out to enhance the overall member experience.
“One of the key updates has been the complete revamp of our pro shop,” he said.
“We’re now proudly showcasing our affiliation with Acushnet, featuring their premium brands like Titleist and FootJoy, which has added a fresh and high-quality dimension to our offerings.
“The shop is constantly evolving, not only in terms of golf equipment, but also with a growing selection of food, drinks, and other member conveniences.
“And we’ve also expanded our range of logoed accessories, apparel and lifestyle products, so members can show off their Bexley pride both on and off the course.
“Whether you’re in need of new clubs, stylish golf wear, or simply grabbing a snack before your round, we’ve worked hard to ensure the pro shop is a one-stop destination for all your golfing needs.”
Demidjuk says the changes are part of the club’s ongoing commitment to provide a top-tier experience for both our members and visitors.
“And we’re constantly looking for ways to improve and evolve to meet their expectations. It’s an exciting time . . . and we’re just getting started!”
And the enthusiastic pro says there are always ideas for more improvements.
“Obviously not everything is possible given budget constraints and available resources.
“That said, we’ve already made some great progress, such as the addition of two new bunkers on the 18th hole.
“The long-term plan is to eventually renovate all 17 bunkers across the course, which will certainly enhance the playability and aesthetics.
“I do have some big ideas for the course and the pro shop, and we’re definitely heading in the right direction.
“And I’m excited about what’s to come in the future.”
Demidjuk was also full of praise for “a fantastic team” at Bexley Golf Club.
“Woo Kim has been with us for the past five years, and his experience is invaluable,” he said.
“Woo has built strong relationships with many of our Korean members and social players, and his language skills and cultural understanding make him a key asset to our team.
“His deep knowledge of golf and commitment to providing excellent service has made a real difference in how we connect with our diverse community.
“We’re also thrilled to have Matt Peter on board as our Golf Operations Manager.
“Matt recently joined us after a successful 15-year tenure at Kogarah Golf Club, where he gained extensive experience in all aspects of golf operations.
“His strategic vision and expertise are already making a significant impact.
“With Matt’s leadership, we’re excited to elevate BGC to new heights, particularly in our retail and membership offerings.
“We’re also working together to set higher standards for our coaching programs, including clinics, ladies’ programs, senior “Get Into Golf” sessions, and MyGolf programs for juniors.
“The energy, passion, and dedication of my team really inspire me, and I couldn’t be more excited for the future of Bexley Golf Club with such a talented and driven group of people.”
And the best thing about Bexley Golf Club?
“Well, we’re so fortunate to have a dedicated and passionate group of members who truly care about the club and are always supportive,” he said.
“One of the greatest aspects of having a smaller membership base is that both myself and the staff get to know each member personally.
“We welcome people from all walks of life here in this part of Sydney, and it’s that sense of community and connection that makes Bexley Golf Club such a friendly and welcoming place.
“It’s a privilege to be part of such a close-knit and supportive club.”
