NOT even a fractured left foot could prevent Keperra Country Golf Club’s Dylan Price from winning a gold medal at the Special Olympics Australia National Games in Tasmania.

Dylan was joined on the podium by fellow Keperra member Stephen Lawley, who won a silver medal. The pair was part of a 19-strong golf team representing Queensland at Launceston’s Country Club Tasmania.

Both competed in the Level 4 nine-hole competitions with Dylan taking the gold medal in Division 1 and Stephen scoring silver in Division 4.

Dylan’s winning performance included shooting a personal best score of 48 on the final day of the three rounds.

It was an extraordinary effort, especially considering Dylan fractured his left foot three weeks before flying to Tasmania with his family and caddie, fellow KCGC member Jarrod Mann.

“Dylan was working stacking shelves at a supermarket and a bottle of soft drink fell on his foot,” dad Terry said.

“We had to get a medical clearance for him to use a cart in the competition and he took off his moonboot to play. There was lots of ice and elevating his foot between each round.

“He was a real trooper and he didn’t complain. He has a pretty high pain threshold. The greens were tricky and fast and he played so well. He now has the set of medals: a gold, silver and bronze from the last three National Games.”

A gold medal isn’t all Dylan came home with. During the trip he scored an elusive hole-in-one.

After the Games, Dylan, dad Terry and Jarrod played the three courses at Barnbougle with the 14-hole short-course, Bougle Run, their final hit-out before heading home.

Despite freezing rain and gale-force gusts, Dylan’s tee shot on the 11th hole found the bottom of the cup. Not to be outdone, Terry stepped up on the 13th hole to score an ace of his own.

It was the icing on the Tassie trip cake for the Price family and puts Dylan and Terry in a select group of father-son golfers to ace a hole in the same round.
