One of world golf’s rising stars, World Number 13 Jordan Spieth, will head to Sydney in November to compete in the Emirates Australian Open from 27-30 November at The Australian Golf Club.

21 year-old American Spieth has taken the golf world by storm in the last 18 months after his breakthrough win on the PGA Tour at the John Deere Classic in 2013. By doing so, Spieth became the youngest player to win on the PGA Tour in 82 years.

The Texan, who will represent the United States Ryder Cup team in Scotland this month, finished in a tie for second at The Masters in his first appearance in April. He also represented the United States team at the Presidents Cup at the end of his first year on the PGA Tour, becoming the youngest player ever to play the event.

“I can’t wait to get down to Australia at the end of the year and be part of such a terrific field in Sydney,” Spieth said.

“I’ve heard so many great things about Australia, the culture, and Mr. Nicklaus’s redesign of The Australian Golf Club. Given the great history associated with this event , I’ll be giving it everything I’ve got to add my name to the impressive list of champions.”

Golf Australia CEO Stephen Pitt said that with tickets for the championship going on sale today,  fans were in for a treat when Spieth arrives in Sydney.

“Jordan is an excitement machine. We only have to think back to when he holed a bunker shot to get into a playoff which led to his first PGA Tour win to know what his abilities are. He has consistently performed on the PGA Tour which has allowed him to become the youngest American player ever to make it inside the world Top-10,” Pitt said.

“Together with World Number 1 Rory McIlroy, World Number 2 Adam Scott and World Number 9 Jason Day, everything is in place for a terrific week at the Emirates Australian Open.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism and Major Events Andrew Stoner said, “It is fantastic news that such a rising star of international golf in Jordan Spieth has committed to join the field at the Emirates Australian Open in Sydney. This is exciting news for all the fans.”

“We are committed to the long term vision of seeing the tournament become the premier event of its kind in the Asia Pacific region,” Mr Stoner said.

The Emirates Australian Open will be broadcast live on the Seven Network across all four days and the championship will again be sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia and OneAsia. The Championship is owned by Golf Australia and is managed by World Sport Group with the assistance of TRP Sports.

Tickets are on sale now via Ticketek at www.ticketek.com or by calling 132 849.
