PLAYING perhaps the best golf of her career, Queensland’s Katelyn Must has some unfinished business to clean up after being selected in Australia’s team to contest the Women’s PGA Cup in the United States in October.

Must was a member of the Australian team which finished fourth behind the US and Canada when the event was last contested two years ago and hopes to improve on that showing in Oregon from October 1 to 5.

“There’s something special about wearing the green and gold and representing your country,” Must said. “I’ve played in major events like the European Masters, but being in a team event for Australia is the biggest thing I’ve ever done in golf.”

Must shot four-under-par 68 to easily win a preliminary qualifier at Brisbane’s Keperra golf course in March, then had rounds of 73 and 66 to tie with NSW’s Jemma Hunter in final qualifying at Victoria’s Sandhurst Golf Club in late April.

Joining Must and Hunter in the Australian team are Victoria’s Grace Lennon, NSW’s Sienna Voglis and former team captain Lisa Jean, who now coaches at Royal Canberra Golf Club.

The Women’s PGA Cup, confined to club professionals, teaching pros and golf administrators, will be held at Sunriver Resort in Oregon, with Australia competing against teams from Canada, Great Britain & Ireland, South Africa, Sweden and the US.

Teams of five women will compete in a 54-hole competition, with each team’s best three scores counted each day.

Captain of Australia in the first edition of the Women’s PGA Cup in 2019, Lisa Jean was emotional post-round, relieved she will get another chance to represent her country.

Jean and her team mates will be looking to lean on previous tour experience in October, with all of this year’s qualifiers having plenty of past playing experience.

“We’ve all played on tour,” Jean said. “We’re club pros now but I think that being ex-tour players and competitive, we might go all right.

“We’ve got a good team this year, Sienna and I are the originals we call ourselves from the first team. Then Katelyn played in the second Cup two years ago, and Grace and Jenna are just great golfers.”
