With six weeks remaining until the top 8 players on each team officially qualify for the 2019 Presidents Cup, Bryson DeChambeau moved up two spots to No. 6 in the U.S. Team standings to bolster his position among the top 8 after a runner-up finish at the 3M Open.
The Presidents Cup will return to Melbourne, Australia and The Royal Melbourne Golf Club for the third time, December 9-15, 2019, when the International Team, led by Captain Ernie Els, will take on the U.S. Team led by Captain Tiger Woods.
DeChambeau won his first start of the 2018-19 season at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in November and nearly added his second title of the season at the 3M Open. DeChambeau, a five-time PGA TOUR winner, is in search of his first Presidents Cup appearance thanks to his one victory and four other top-10 results this season.
DeChambeau finished one stroke back of 20-year-old Matthew Wolff, who eagled the 72nd hole to capture his maiden PGA TOUR title in just his fourth career PGA TOUR start. Upon acceptance of full PGA TOUR membership, Wolff will be credited with 1,004 Presidents Cup points in the U.S. Team standings.
The top 5 in the U.S. Team standings remained steady, with Brooks Koepka still atop the list after finishing 65th at the 3M Open. Koepka is followed by Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas and Matt Kuchar, who all had the week off.
U.S. Team Captain Woods will have one more week of rest before returning to action at next week’s The Open Championship. Woods remains No. 12 in the standings and is looking to become the Presidents Cup’s second-ever playing captain.
On the International Team, 2017 Presidents Cup rookie Adam Hadwin continues to make his case for a second appearance after a solo-fourth result at the 3M Open elevated the Canadian four spots in the standings to No. 15.
“That was certainly a goal coming in this year was to play my way back onto that team again,” Hadwin said. “I had a ton of fun in New York a couple years ago and I know that heading down to Melbourne will be just an awesome experience in front of those fans. I’ve just got to keep playing good golf. Good golf will take care of a lot of things.”
Elsewhere on the International Team standings, Hideki Matsuyama overtook Adam Scott with a T7 finish at the 3M Open and moved up to No. 3 in the standings while Scott fell to No. 4. Mexico’s Abraham Ancer and Australia’s Cameron Smith also swapped positions, with Ancer taking over the No. 9 position after a T19 finish at the Irish Open while Smith took the week off and fell back to No. 10.

The top eight (8) international players (excluding those eligible for the European Ryder Cup team) from the Presidents Cup International Team Points List which shall be Official World Golf Ranking points accumulated in the time period from August 27, 2018 (Dell Technologies Championship) through August 18, 2019 (BMW Championship).
Four Captain’s selections will be made at a to-be-determined later date.
U.S. Team eligibility criteria
The top eight (8) U.S. PGA TOUR members who have earned the most FedExCup points from September 11, 2017 (2017 BMW Championship) through 2019 BMW Championship, weighted as follows:
(a) 2017 BMW Championship through 2018 TOUR Championship: 1 FedExCup point = 1 point
(b) First event of the 2018-2019 season through 2019 BMW Championship: 1 FedExCup point = 2 points
